Kousins Teach Free Motion Quilting

WOW!  What a great group of Quilters to teach free motion quilting on Tuesday, October 17!

It was truly rewarding when several students opened up their BSR (Bernina Stitch Regulator) for the first time.  The BSR offers many amazing features and techniques.  The class practiced over 18 different free motion designs.

Hoover's Host the Kousins for New BOM - Egg Money by Eleanor Burns

The Kousins started a new Block of the Month (BOM) at Hoover's on Monday, October 16, 2023--Egg Money Quilts: Vintage 1930's Samplers.

During the 1930s, most eggs were produced on rural farms with small flocks that scratched their way around the barnyard.  The farmer’s wife was usually responsible for caring for the chickens, and the money received from the sale of the eggs was hers.  Surely some fabric was purchased with these precious funds, and along with chicken feed sacks came the quilts uniquely associated with the Depression.

It was so exciting to see the fabrics that everyone selected.  We completed the Grandmothers Flower Garden and the Road to California blocks.  Stay tune for more photos as the Egg Money BOM continues.

Centre Pieces Quilt Guild, State College - 10/10/24

The Kackling Kousins spent the day with the QB quilters from the State College Centre Pieces Quilt GuildWhat a FUN day!!!!!

We started the morning with the Quilt-As-You-Go Workshop.  The Workshop focused on the history and the techniques used in making "Potholder" quilts during the Civil War.  The quilters learned that this method of quilting is still applicable today for finishing up all those blocks that most quilters have stored away and for completing community service projects.

As you can see from the photos below, each of the quilters that attended the workshop were very successful in learning this technique.

The Kackling Kousins then attended the Centre Pieces Quilt Guild meeting in the evening.  They started by asking the Guild members if any of them had a stack of quilt blocks pieced together waiting to be quilted and assembled into a beautiful quilt? Most answered YES!  We assured them that they were in the right lecture for getting some of these projects completed. Samples were shared and the quilters in the Workshop shared their blocks with the group.

We thank the State College Centre Pieces Quilt Guild for having us.  We would love to visit your Quilt Guild and share this history and quilting technique. If you are interested, please contact one of the Kousins at 814-571-4436 (Kate) or 814-280-6529.
