Kackling Kousins are Back!

The Kackling Kousins have been spending time with grandkids, family and friends during July and August.  We are ending our two month quilting hiatus at the Great Grange Fair in Centre Hall, PA. As you know, we are actually cousins and our family has been attending the Fair since 1943. 

To that end, we are ready to kick off Fall 2024 quilting with a NEW Block-of-the-Month at Hoovers BERNINA Sew in Mifflinburg, PA--TALES OF THE FIRST LADIES beginning Monday, September 16th (this BOM will meet for six months on the third Monday of each month).

We will continue this fall at Hoovers with some one day classes:

FREE MOTION QUILTING
Tuesday, October 22, 2024
10:00 am - 3:00 pm

MACHINE QUILTING WITH RULERS CLASS
Tuesday, November 19, 2024
10:00 am - 3:00 pm

We will also be teaching the CATHEDRAL WINDOW TABLE MAT class on Monday, December 2, 2024 from 10:00 am - 3:00 pm.  This is a quilt-as-you-go technique that will provide you with a finished table mat for your holiday table.

The Kousins are really looking forward to spending quality quilting time and fellowship with all of you!

Congratulations Miss Rose!!!!

 

Congratulations Miss Rose on your wedding this summer.  However, for The Kousins, Rose's wedding announcement is bittersweet.  Even though we are extremely happy for Rose, she will be leaving Hoovers to relocate with her new husband.  We enjoyed her smiling face, her attention to detail, and her helping hand whenever needed

Best wishes Rose ... you will be missed!

Machine Quilting with Rulers

Quilters, if you haven't tried quilting with rulers, you should! As mentioned in an earlier post ... "ruler quilting is free motion quilting on training wheels."  After you have mastered the touch of the ruler with your machine, your creativity is endless.  

The Kousins will be offering another Machine Quilting with Rulers class this fall. Class information will be available in Hoovers Newsletter.

Egg Money Block-of-the-Month--What a Success!!!

The Kackling Kousins offered a Finishing Class for the Egg Money Block-of-Month (BOM).  A Finishing Class, after a BOM is complete, is a great practice for the participating quilters. For those that need to complete blocks, the class gives them the opportunity to do so.  We then proceed to discuss layout for the completed blocks.  We audition background and sashing colors to help each quilter design their quilt top.

Our goal is to ensure that each quilter leaves the class with a plan to complete their quilt.  After spending time with these quilters, once-a-month for six months, new quilting friendships are formed, and the quilter learns techniques that will be used again and again for this timeless art.

Machine Quilting with Rulers - Tuesday, June 18, 2024 - Hoover's Bernina Sew

The Kackling Kousins are offering the Machine Quilting with Rulers class again at Hoovers on Tuesday, June 18, 2024. If you have a desire to learn ruler quilting, this class is definitely for you.  The Kousins will provide several rulers for you to test drive this quilting technique. According to  Amanda Murphy, "ruler quilting is free motion quilting with training wheels."  You will first learn to use the rulers in conjunction with your sewing machine.  After this touch is mastered, you are well on your way to endless creative custom quilting. 

If you are quilting on your home sewing machine or your longarm, using rulers can help you get very consistent with lines and shapes.  Students come to class with a simple quilt block already sewn.  The block will be used to practice using the rulers.  It is extremely important to learn these techniques on a quilt block that actually has seams and ditches.  Discussion topics will include:  supplies, samples, use of a straight edge ruler to complete all of the in-the-ditch quilting, and use of a various curved rulers to create some fun designs to complete the block.  A demonstration will also be provided on how to do a faux-pipe binding.

Spring 2024 Has Definitely Sprung

It is hard to believe that Memorial Day 2024 is this weekend.  Words cannot express how busy The Kousins have been since Hoover's Spring Fling 2024.  Instead of describing our activities, we decided to visually show you thru photos!

Hoover's Spring Fling 2024 - Evening Workshop -- Mini Dresden Snack Mat - Written and published by Kackling Kousins Quilting (this is our first published pattern which includes an acrylic template)!  So much fun was had by all.

  

THE KOUSINS were then off to Wikes-Barre, PA to present the "Quilt-As-You-Go Civil War Style" lecture (Monday evening) to the PA Quilters Association (Facebook Group - Pennsylvania Quilters)!  What a great group.

   

  

THE KOUSINS then returned to Wilkes-Barre to hold a workshop (Saturday) on the "Cathedral Window Table Mat" for the Pennsylvania Quilters Association.  We had a great day and were excited that we could teach, talk and laugh with those in attendance.

   

    

THE KOUSINS returned to Hoovers on Monday, May 20, 2024 to teach the last "Egg Money by Eleanor Burns" Block-of-the-Month class.  Stay tuned for our June post when we highlight each students' blocks at a "Finishing Class for Egg Money" to be held on June 18, 2024.

THE KOUSINS taught another class at Hoovers on Tuesday, May 21, 2024.  The "Cathedral Window Table Mat" has become very popular among quilters.  When you attend this five-hour class, you go home with a completed table mat.  Take a look at some of the finished mats.

  

THE KOUSINS will be at Hoover's on Tuesday, June 19, 2024 to teach "Machine Quilting with Rulers."  There are still seats available for this class.  If you have any interest in quilting with rulers, this is a great class to test drive a number of Amanda Murphy rulers.
